EGU, the European Geosciences Union, has named the 45 recipients of next year’s Union Medals and Awards, Division Medals, and Division Outstanding Early Career Scientists Awards.

Every year, the EGU awards & medals programme recognises eminent scientists for their outstanding research contribution in the Earth, planetary and space sciences. In addition, it identifies the awardees as role models for the next generation of early career scientists to foster geoscience research.

Stefano Nativi was awarded the Ian McHarg Medal. This medal was established by the Earth and Space Science Informatics Division in recognition of the scientific achievements of Ian McHarg. It is awarded for distinguished research in information technology applied to Earth and space sciences

All the prize winners will receive their medals at the EGU 2019 General Assembly, which will take place in Vienna on 7–12 April. The EGU has also announced the winners of the Outstanding Student Poster and PICO (OSPP) Awards corresponding to the 2018 General Assembly.
